The Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board announced this week that the Bachelor of Science (HSE) offered by Curtin University has achieved accreditation by meeting the OHS and educational standards set by the Accreditation Board for education of generalist OHS professionals.

The Registrar of the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board, Pam Pryor, commented that the emphasis on control actions and level of practical application and integration of practice with the theoretical content provide a good grounding for graduates to become generalist OHS professionals.

The Bachelor of Science (HSE) at Curtin University is offered in both internal and online study modes giving students flexible study options. The course is designed to prepare students for working in the rapidly expanding area of health, safety and environment, and provides them with an opportunity to specialise in workplace health and safety.

Accreditation Board Registrar Pam Pryor said that the objective of the Accreditation Board was to ensure that quality professional education was available to aspiring and current OHS professionals and that this required a range of programs with differing emphases to meet the various OHS needs of industry.

Curtin University is such an example. Curtin University joins the University of Queensland in having the only bachelor degrees in OHS accredited by the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board. Universities with accredited post graduate OHS qualifications include RMIT University, Latrobe University, Edith Cowan University, Monash University, University of Newcastle, Queensland University of Technology and University of Queensland.
