The Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board announced this week that the Graduate Diploma and Masters of Occupational Health and Safety offered by Curtin University has achieved accreditation.
Curtin University has a long history of providing OHS professional education. The post graduate program was recently revised to clearly differentiate the OHS programs from those of other disciplines in the School of Public Health. The structure of the units and assessment tasks have been revised to emphasise links with the workplace. Similarly, the research methods and projects more closely reflect requirements of the OHS Professional in the workplace.
The Registrar of the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board, Pam Pryor, commented that the accreditation panel was impressed at the constructive approach by the university in implementing change over a short period and their attention to detail in ensuring that student needs were met.
Dr Helen Brown, Director of Health Safety and Environment at Curtin, commented that the accreditation was an important milestone that offered significant benefits to Curtin graduates.
Curtin University is looking to offer a full suite of accredited programs. The Bachelor of HSE which achieved OHS accreditation in July, 2014 is joined by the Graduate Diploma and Masters in OHS. The Curtin double degree of Bachelor of HSE and Bachelor of Health Promotion is currently being considered for accreditation.
