The Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board announced this week that the Bachelor of Health Science (OSH major) conducted by Edith Cowan University (ECU) had achieved accreditation by meeting the OHS and educational standards set by the Accreditation Board for education of generalist OHS professionals.

Edith Cowan University now provides a suite of accredited OHS qualifications across the Bachelor in Health Science, the Graduate Diploma and the Master in Occupational Health and Safety.

Associate Professor Annette Raynor, Head of School for Exercise and Health Science at ECU commented that this additional accreditation demonstrates the university’s commitment to the OHS profession and the improvement of health and safety in the workplace.

Offered online, on-campus or a blended approach, the Bachelor of Health Science offers students a core of OHS units which they may choose to supplement with studies in health promotion or environmental health. This broad range of study units together with the compulsory professional practice unit and workplace-based OHS research project develops graduates with a good technical base that are ‘work-ready’.

Associate Professor Sue Reed explained that ECU is extending their industry liaison and commitment to developing work ready graduates by seeking organisations interested in partnering with the university in its undergraduate intern program.

Accreditation Board Registrar Pam Pryor said that the Edith Cowan University joins Curtin University and the University of Queensland in offering accredited OHS qualifications at the Bachelor level.
