Call for nominations for OHS Education Awards December 14, 2013
Do you wish to nominate a recent graduate of PhD, Professional Doctorate or Masters by Research for the SIA College of Fellows Dr Eric Wigglesworth OHS Education (Research) Award?
The Safety Institute of Australia College of Fellows has joined with the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board to offer the annual SIA OHS Education awards. The purpose of these awards is to provide an opportunity for students studying occupational health and safety at university level, and demonstrating high levels of achievement and initiative, to be recognised by the Safety Institute of Australia. These awards are not designed to recognise the highest academic achiever, but to recognise the potential in students who display consistently high academic standards, practical skills and a commitment to, and involvement in, occupational health and safety.
There are three awards; the Eric Wigglesworth OHS Education (Research) Award, the National OHS Education (Postgraduate) Award and the National OHS Education (Undergraduate) Award. In addition to the recognition associated with being a winner of one of these awards the winner receives an a professional development fund to value of $5,000 at the doctoral level or $2000 at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels. The educational institution from which the winner has graduated is also recognised. Information on each of the awards is attached.
Nominations for the undergraduate and postgraduate awards are made by the university. At the Doctorial and Masters by Research levelnominations may be made by the thesis supervisor, the graduate may self- nominate or a peer or other person may make the nomination.
To be eligible for this round of the awards the person must have completed the academic requirements for the qualification in the calendar year 2012 (ie: probably graduated in 2013) and their research study must have potential for application to the prevention of work-related fatality, injury, disease and/or ill health.
If you are aware of such studies and consider they may quality for the award I encourage you to nominate. Note, nominations should be sent to registrar@ohseducationaccreditation.org.au not later than 30th January.
