It is time to make your nominations for the SIA OHS Education Awards which are conducted in association with the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board. This call for nominations for the education awards refers to graduates who completed the qualification requirements in the calendar year 2013. Nominations close on the 30th September, 2014.
The purpose of these awards is to provide an opportunity for students studying occupational health and safety at university level, and demonstrating high levels of achievement and initiative, to be recognised by the Safety Institute of Australia. These awards are not designed to recognise the highest academic achiever, but to recognise the potential in students who display consistently high academic standards, practical skills and a commitment to, and involvement in, occupational health and safety.
There are three awards; the Eric Wigglesworth OHS Education (Research) Award, the National OHS Education (Postgraduate) Award and the National OHS Education (Undergraduate) Award. In addition to the recognition associated with being a winner of one of these awards the winner receives an a professional development fund to value of $5000 at the doctoral level or $2000 at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels. The educational institution from which the winner has graduated is also recognised. Information on each of the awards is attached.
Nominations for the undergraduate and postgraduate awards are made by the program coordinator by completing the relevant nomination form in the attached document. At the Doctorial and Masters by Research level nominations may be made by the thesis supervisor, the graduate may self- nominate or a peer may make the nomination. On receiving the nomination I will then contact the graduate with a request to complete the nominee form and provide a copy of their thesis. Shortlisted nominees will be interviewed.
